My name is Matt and I am addicted to my wok. Phew, that felt good to say out loud.
Seriously though. I take it camping. I take it on vacation. I fry chicken in, make omelets, cuddle it on cold nights. (Ok, so not that last part.) I really do love my wok, and I can trace that addiction back to the spring of 2012. I met Grace Young at an event held by Culinary Historys of Piedmont, NC (CHOPNC) where she signed my copy of her seminal cookbook Stir-Frying to the Sky’s Edge, posed for a photo, and I’m sure assumed she’d never hear from me again. A few weeks later, and after a fellow CHOPNC member initially floated the idea, I sent Grace an e-mail asking if she would mind if I set up an online cooking group a la Tuesdays with Dorie and lead us through cooking our way through her cookbook.
She enthusiastically agreed, and the rest is history. We have grown from an initial core of 40-50 “wokkers” to more than 700! We have been mentioned in the Chicago Tribune, News & Observer, and The Kitchn. We’ve cooked our way through almost half of Stir-Frying to the Sky’s Edge and picked up new wokkers from California to Connecticut and from Sweden to Hong Kong.
So I’d like to take this moment to invite you to join in our Wok Revolution! It’s easy to get started, and once you fire up your wok you’ll never want to stop! Information on how to find out more about Wok Wednesdays is below, but I also want to give you a chance to enter into this giveaway. (Cue infomercial voice – but wait, there’s more!)
As a thank you to the hundreds of Wok Wednesdays members and as an encouragement for new folks to join in the fun, I’m giving away a set of gorgeous Chinese dishware in on of my favorite Dragon patterns. These are perfect for your “after shots” of your beautiful stir-fry, and also do double duty as prep bowls.
All you have to do to enter is leave a comment below and answering the following question:
Why do YOU wok with us on Wednesdays? Or why would you like to start?
One entry per person, and entries will be accepted until 11:59pm EST next Wednesday, September 10th. A winner will be selected at random from the comments. Good luck!
